Join the Jane Hultin Society and Leave a Legacy

The Jane Hultin Society honors visionary supporters who include Central City Opera in their estate plans. These donors ensure the long-term artistic and financial stability of CCO—sustaining world-class opera, training tomorrow’s performers, enriching Colorado communities, and preserving our historic properties in Central City.

Planned gifts allow you to make a transformational impact without affecting your current finances. Many options offer significant tax advantages while supporting what you love most about opera.

Ways to Create Your Legacy

Bequest in Your Will or Trust

The most common planned gift—simply include language in your will or revocable trust designating a gift to Central City Opera. You can specify a dollar amount, percentage of your estate, or particular assets.

Sample bequest language: “I give [amount/percentage/description of property] to Central City Opera House Association, a Colorado nonprofit corporation (Tax ID: 84-6002285), located in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, for its general purposes.”

Beneficiary Designations

Name Central City Opera as a beneficiary (primary or contingent) on:

  • Retirement accounts (IRA, 401(k), 403(b)) — Often the most tax-smart asset to donate, as these accounts carry income tax burdens for heirs but not for charities
  • Life insurance policies — An affordable way to make a major gift
  • Bank or brokerage accounts — Through transfer-on-death (TOD) or payable-on-death (POD) designations

These gifts are easy to arrange, cost nothing now, and can be changed if your circumstances shift.

Charitable Gift Annuities

Make a gift to CCO and receive fixed income payments for life. Rates increase with age, and you receive an immediate charitable tax deduction.

Example: A 75-year-old donor contributes $25,000 and receives approximately $1,475 annually for life, plus a current tax deduction.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Fund a trust that pays you (or your beneficiaries) income for a set period or lifetime. After that term, the remainder goes to Central City Opera. Offers immediate tax deductions, avoids capital gains tax on appreciated assets, and provides income flexibility.

Donor-Advised Funds

If you have a donor-advised fund, you can recommend grants to CCO now or designate us as a beneficiary after your lifetime.

Gifts of Real Estate, Art, or Other Assets

Donate property, artwork, collections, or other appreciated assets. You avoid capital gains tax and receive a charitable deduction based on fair market value.
