Announcing the “Mile High Collaborative: Fountain of Youth” coming to Boettcher Concert Hall on September 24

Denver Young Artists Orchestra, Central City Opera, and Performing Arts Academy unite for a collaborative performance celebrating talented young orchestral musicians and chorus with vocal soloists.

Delight in a special collaborative kick off to the Denver Young Artists Orchestra (DYAO) concert season featuring the debut for new Music Director, Wilbur Lin, at Boettcher Concert Hall on September 24, 2023. Musicians from Central City Opera, Denver Young Artists Orchestra and the Performing Arts Academy will unite for Mile High Collaborative: Fountain of Youth.

“The voice is the oldest, purist, and most intimate form of music making,” said Lin. “By joining the forces between aspiring instrumentalists and vocal artists, we not only aim to make the connection and build relationships between young talents, we also build the bridge between us and our collective musical past.”

The first half of the program will feature Jennifer Higdon’s Cold Mountain Suite — a new concert piece from her opera which was co-commissioned by the Denver Young Artists Orchestra — and Respighi’s effervescent Fountains of Rome. In the second half, audiences will hear operatic and Broadway favorites from Bernstein to Puccini, showcasing the breadth of what instrumental and vocal music can do when combined.

“Central City Opera is thrilled to join forces with both of these exceptional youth arts organizations, bridging the past to our present and our future through the magic of music,” said Scott Finlay, Interim Chief External Affairs Officer.

Central City Opera’s soloists and chorus members will contribute their powerful voices to the performance. Central City Opera and DYAO have also partnered with the Performing Arts Academy to provide the chorus for this concert event. The chorus will feature students from various local high schools.

”We are thrilled to be part of this extraordinary collaboration that brings together the best of both orchestral and vocal talents,” said Kelly Waltrip, Executive Director of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra. “This performance is a testament to the power of music to unite and inspire, and our musicians are so looking forward to sharing the stage with Central City Opera and the Performing Arts Academy.”

Doors open at 2:00 pm for this 2:30 pm performance. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students and teachers. Buy online at coloradosymphony.org or call 303-623-7876.
