how the west was sung.image Central City Opera Education & Community Engagement performed one of its most popular touring operas, HOW THE WEST WAS SUNG, for an audience of about 120 fourth and fifth graders at Kohl Elementary in Broomfield, CO. This was the first performance with the redesigned set by designer Jonathan D. Allsup. Jonathan says, “Updating this production visually was a combination of using the backdrop to define the space and indicate the canvas top of a covered wagon, adding the wagon wheels and trunks to suggest the time period and also suggest the old-west traveling show feel of the production, and creating continuity among the design elements (costumes and props), all while maintaining the beautiful image panels which have been with the production since it began touring decades ago.”
