2017 Madame Lou Bunch Day

On June 17, Central City celebrated its 43rd annual Madame Lou Bunch Day, a celebration that featured street food, live music, and the city’s famous bed races. By noon, Main Street was filled with members of the Central City community dressed up as madames and miners.

In keeping with Central City tradition, Central City Opera entered a bed racing team of our own, made up of Brendan McNamara (House/Festival Services Manager), Maria Servodidio (Events Assistant), and Kurt Tiede (Props Master). Their costumes for the event were inspired by one of this summer’s mainstage operas, Carmen, featuring Brendan and Kurt as matadors and Maria as a bull.

During the event, Kurt and Brendan took turns pushing Maria up and down Main Street in a bed as they raced against the clock. They competed against eight other teams from local businesses and organizations.

Happy Madame Lou Bunch Day, Central City!
