2020 Festival Update
A Message from Our General/Artistic Director
As a member of our Central City Opera (CCO) family, you understand just how healing music can be in times of distress and uncertainty. It brings comfort and encouragement knowing brighter days will come. CCO has walked through many storms in our 88-year history, and yet the support of patrons like you, who fearlessly walk beside us during such times, has always enabled CCO to weather the turbulence.
Because Central City Opera is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our family, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our 2020 Festival until 2021 due to ongoing safety concerns caused by COVID-19. This news is extremely disappointing, but the decision is in the best interest of our audience, artists, staff and the community.
Knowing that it is a difficult time for all of us to make decisions about the future, we will be contacting all of our 2020 ticket holders with options for their tickets including donations, exchanges for 2021 and refunds. More information for ticket holders can be found here: https://centralcityopera.org/2020-festival-ticket-options/
The COVID-19 crisis is drastically impacting the livelihoods of hundreds of performers, musicians and technicians who bring stories to life on our historic Opera House stage each summer. In hopes to provide some relief, we have established the CCO COVID-19 Relief Fund with the goal to raise $297,000. This fund will support the organization’s commitment to pay all of our 2020 Festival company a portion of their contracts and assist CCO during this unprecedented time.
If you choose to support this fund or donate the value of your tickets back to CCO, your donation will be matched up to $100,000 by Carousel Performance Sponsors and long-time CCO supporters, Pam and Dutch Bansbach. Additional matching support will be provided by the Central City Opera Board of Directors. They, like you, have every confidence Central City Opera will continue to sing stories that uplift and inspire for many years to come. I ask you to walk alongside us once more by making a gift to Central City Opera today.
As we continue to navigate these uncertain times, we are reminded of music’s power as a source of peace, love and hope. We strongly believe that music not only enriches our lives but also deepens our connections with others and strengthens our communities.
Thank you in advance for your incredible support. You are a vital part of this family. We look forward to the time when we can safely gather together again to raise our voices and celebrate the healing power of the arts. #WalkWithCCO

Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho’ your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone,
You’ll never walk alone.”
