Denver, Colo. - Central City Opera (CCO) and the University of Colorado (CU) Opera Studies program team up to present Divas and Demons, a concert featuring spectacular and devilish characters from opera and musical theater. The concert will be performed throughout the state as part of Central City Opera’s 14th annual Opera Rocks the Rockies tour of Colorado, kicking off Nov. 5 and running through Nov. 12

A 90-minute program of staged scenes, Divas and Demons features spooky and splashy characters from the gypsy queen Carmen to the murderous Mephistopheles. Audiences will enjoy popular selections including the “Drinking Song” from La Traviata, “Toreador” from Carmen and Mephistophele’s aria from Faust, as well as duets and arias from Don Pasquale, I Pagliacci, The Medium, Sweeney Todd, and more!

Performing for student and community audiences are members of Central City Opera’s 2010 Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Artist Training Program including sopranos Audra Gardner and Alisa Jordheim and baritone Jeffrey Seppala. Recognized as one of the most effective and competitive career-entry training programs in the country, CCO’s Artist Training Program has earned international acclaim.  Graduate and doctoral level students in CU’s Opera Theatre program make up the remainder of the roster for the tour and include: tenor, John Lindsey; mezzo soprano, Nicole Vogel; and bass, Wu Wei (a member of CCO’s Artist Training Program in 2007), along with pianist, Michael Tilley.

2010 marks the 14th year for Central City Opera’s award-winning touring program and the eighth year of collaboration with CU.  The 2010 Opera Rocks the Rockies tour of Divas and Demons begins Nov. 5 with a FREE public community performance at CU’s Imig Music Building.
