See two special performances of an original opera created by the high-school kids attending this renowned 18-day summer opera camp, the Colorado Performing Arts Intensive.
This year’s original opera (written by the students, during the Intensive) uses a blend of fictional characters and historical figures to tell the story of the Ludlow Massacre, one of the darkest chapters in the American Labor movement. We “celebrate” the 100 year anniversary of this event by paying tribute to the many people whose legacy has been to teach us about basic human dignity and by honoring the sacrifices that so many have made.
During the Colorado Performing Arts Intensive partnership, the Colorado Springs Conservatory and Central City Opera provide instruction as students team-create a short opera; attend performances and classes, and perform their own original work at the Central City Opera Festival.
